Paadhai has been running educational projects which involved volunteering and content creation from 2007 onwards. We had attempted mentorship and content mapping, through projects like Karka, earlier.
We piloted the use of a volunteer Maths tutor for teachers and students attending a Rotary run school based in rural Channapatna, about 60kms from Bangalore city. As a significant improvement in student performance resulted, the Channapatna school management approached Paadhai to expand the program to include other subjects for students in years 8, 9 and 10 standard.
In 2020 to 2021, a dedicated group of English, Maths and Science subject matter experts were recruited as volunteer mentors. Each come from diverse fields of professional activity and have decades of experience.
A coordinated approach to ensuring that the school administration, teachers and mentors were well prepared for the program was adopted, paving the way for successful outcomes. Mentors have supported teachers with online coaching, along with curated curriculum content. This has offered tools and resources to promote an interactive and interesting classroom experience for both teachers and students alike.
With an ongoing commitment to an expanded ELE footprint across rural and tribal schools, Paadhai continues to recruit professional volunteer mentors and work with a number of interested schools.
